Artists Biographies

Eric Paetow, 47, is a self-taught blacksmith, who has operated his shop, Wenstrom Metalworks for the past eighteen years.  He named his shop for his great grandfather, Claus Wenstrom, a blacksmith in Mankato, Minnesota, in the early 1900's.  Paetow specializes in making reproduction medieval armor for reanactors, armorers' tools for other armorers, and metal work.  He has lived in Coopers Mills, Maine, for the past seven years

Justin Paetow, 16, the son of Eric Paetow, has just completed his sophomore year at Erskine Academy.  He has been working in his father's blacksmith shop for three years.  .  He forged the knife in the show from a farrier's rasp; he first drew it out to point and rough shaped it, rasp-teeth-hammered it flat, hot-rasped it to its final shape, than  hardened and heat treated it.  He made the handle from a section of elk antler held by a steel pommel that was forged from a separate piece of steel and welded to the blade tang. Justin did all the work except the welding. He would like to pursue a career in the arts.

Participating artists donate 30% of MAG on-site sales proceeds to benefit the Davistown Museum. When we sell work that is exhibitied on the MAG website but held elsewhwere, we solicit a 10% donation. If the artist or another gallery sells the artwork, no commission is solicited or requested. We hope the MAG website exposure will help sell more artwork from the artists' own studios or in galleries which show their work.
