DATM (Nelson 1999, 642) lists Philip Quigley as a maker of levels, marking gauges, and
wooden planes. He was born in Ireland in 1824. He started working in Newark, NJ, in 1847. He
moved to San Francisco, CA in 1852 and died in 1871.

William Marples is listed in DATM (Nelson 1999) as a wooden planemaker, 1828-1856.
William Marples & Sons, 1833 - 1983 made planes, edge tools, and files. It is unknown if this
tool was made by them, it could be an owner signature.
