Internships Available
Davistown Museum – Internship Available The Davistown Museum now has an internship available that includes a cozy bedroom with private bath on the fourth floor of the Davistown Museum complex. Internships may range from 8 weeks to 16 weeks and include use of all Museum facilities (3 locations), including:
• The extensive Center for the Study of Early Tools library at the Liberty facility
• Access to all artifact collections at the Liberty facility
• Use of the new, climate-controlled tools and metallurgy study area on the 1st floor of the Liberty facility
• Use of the two workshops (matting and framing, general repairs and woodworking) on the 1st floor of the Liberty facility
• Shared use of the staff kitchen 2nd floor of the Liberty facility
• Shared use of computer stations on both the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Liberty facility
• Wi-fi services at the Liberty facility
• Access to the Davistown Museum reading room library at the Searsport Visitors Center
• Access to the Davistown Museum office, library, and sculpture gardens at the Hulls Cove facility, including overnight accommodations while visiting Mt. Desert Island
• 2-4 hours per week of consultation with the Museum Curator and other Museum staff members about intern’s study topics and areas of interest
• Daily access to Museum staff for questions, directions, and assignments Interns or intern sponsor(s) are requested to reimburse the Davistown Museum at the rate of $300 per four week internship/study period for facility expenses.
Intern responsibilities include:
• Designating the internship study program to be pursued
• Staffing the Visitors Desk
• Assisting in supervising visitors or tour groups
• Participation in public education outreach programs
• Assisting in the Museum mission of restoration, documentation, and interpretation of incoming tools and artifacts
• Assisting in the biomonitoring programs of the Dept. of Environmental History
• Execution of weekly logs and intern reports
